      <description><![CDATA[John E. Lynam, 81, of North Syracuse died Tuesday at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Pennsylvania, lived his early married years in Alaska and for over 40 years lived in North Syracuse. <br /><br />John was an aircraft electrician, serving in the US Navy during World War II. He graduated from LeMoyne College in their first graduating class. <br /><br />Until 1997 he had been owner of Lynam's Sunshine Superette, North Geddes Street, and part of the Westside Community for over 39 years. <br /><br />He was predeceased by a son, Luke, in 1953. <br /><br />Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Maureen T. Lukacs; seven children, Matthew Lynam, Mark (Elizabeth) Lynam, Therese (John) Mancino, Lisa (Tony) Bartorillo, Lynn (Greg) Harder, Noelle (Hans) Pratt and John Lynam; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  <br /><br />Services will be Friday at 9:30 am at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 10 am at St. Rose of Lima Church with burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery. Phillips Anthony and the late Patrick Anthony, Jr. In 1974, he graduated from Cicero High School. He was employed by Byrne Dairy until 2005.<br /><br />Surviving are his wife of 31 years, the former Mary E. Bisick; his mother, Arlene Anthony of North Syracuse; three children, Chrissy (Wade) Payne of St. Petersburg, FL, Michael Anthony and Patrick Anthony, Jr both of Solvay; a sister, Sandra L. (Robert Fernandez) Anthony of Liverpool and three nephews, Tim, Frank, Jr. and Jamie Coville.<br /><br />Services will be Tuesday at 10 am at Fergerson with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners.       <title>RAYMOND DAIGNEAU, 79 of CANANDAIGUA, NY died Aug 20, 2008</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Raymond Edward Daigneau, 79, formerly of Belmore Drive, North Syracuse died Wednesday at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center, Canandaigua. He was born in Youngstown and enlisted in the military after graduation. He served for over 20 years in the Army and retired to North Syracuse where he lived for 37 years in the care of his wife, Gela. <br /><br />His military service included tours of duty across the United States and overseas to include Panama, Japan and Korea. He served in the Korean War, Special Operations Division, Military Intelligence and also as a recruiter and trainer for the School of the Americas.<br /><br />Raymond was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, a member of Bishop Curley Council 3717, Knights of Columbus and a former member of American Legion Post 1297. <br /><br />He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, the former Argelida M. "Gela" Chong-Bernal on November 2, 1997 and by his daughter, Lorene Gretel Fairclough on March 21, 2000.<br /><br />      Surviving are five children and their spouses, Rosalyn and Gregory Hinkley of Norwood, Dianna Linda Vincent of Liverpool, Vivian and Scott Marsden of Cato, Raymond and Teresa Daigneau, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA and Larry and Laurie Daigneau of Syracuse. Raymond has 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, Louis A. Daigneau, Jr. of Youngstown, OH and several nieces and nephews.<br /><br />     Services will be Monday at 11 am at Fergerson Funeral Home and 11:30 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, with entombment and military honors following in St. Mary's Cemetery Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, DeWitt.       <description><![CDATA[Marion R. Koppel Burton, 86,  died peacefully Monday at Birchwood. She was a life long resident the Syracuse area and lived in North Syracuse for the last 34 years. She was a life long communicant of the Church of the Assumption. For 32 years she was employed as secretary for the engineering department of The Hartford Insurance Company. She loved her flower gardens and  enjoyed many barge cruises. <br /><br />Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Douglas P. "Red" Burton; a son, Douglas P. (Margie) Burton, Jr. of Lyncourt; a daughter-in-law, Pat Burton of Syracuse; a sister, Helen Cyr of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Peggy, Amy and Joseph; four great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. <br /><br />Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption with entombment following in Assumption Cemetery. Vedder, 91, of North Syracuse, passed away Sunday at James Square Nursing Home after a short illness. <br /><br />David was a 27-year employee of General Electric where he worked as a model maker. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. His interests were fishing, gardening and caring for his beloved dogs. David was born in Cicero to the late Alva and Katherine (Tigue) Vedder. <br /><br />He is also predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Sponberg, Evelyn Clement and Althea Young; and his brother, Alvin Vedder. <br /><br />Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Frances (Zawacki) Vedder; their sons, Thomas Vedder of LaFayette and Robert Vedder of North Syracuse and several nieces and nephews including Daniel Young and Vivian Bates. <br /><br />Services will be Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church with burial following in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay. Zufelt, 58, of Syracuse, died suddenly Monday July 28, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM, of injuries suffered in an auto accident.<br /><br />She was a U.S. Army veteran who had served in Germany. Having graduated from OCC, she was a registered nurse at Community General Hospital, A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital and Lifetime Health Care at Chestnut Ridge. She also taught birthing classes. In 2001, Barbara was Queen of Ilderim Temple No. 15, Daughters of the Nile. She was currently serving as chaplain and was recently appointed Supreme Good Will Ambassador of the North East Area. She was secretary of the Cairo Nile Club and director of the Dance Unit and the Pageantry Slave Girls. Barbara was a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital Women's Unit. She was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church.<br /><br />Her brother, Robert Leo Schuetz, predeceased her in 1976. <br /><br />Surviving are her daughter, Christina E. Linduski Green, 81, of North Syracuse, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday after a brief illness.<br /><br />She was a lifetime resident of the area and was a graduate of Vocational High School, where she met Richard E. Green, her husband of 60 years. "Always together forever." She had been employed at the Herald-Journal newspaper in the late '60s, and she was the associate in R.E. Green Associates of North Syracuse.<br /><br />She was always a lady and enjoyed counter cross-stitching and needlework. <br /><br />Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Deborah Joan (John) Wilcox of Kingston, NY; a son, David Bruce Green of Liverpool; a sister, Lois Williams of Eastwood; four grandchildren, Kristyn and Elizabeth Wilcox, Christopher and Richard Lloyd Green; and dearest friend, Shirley Connal. <br /><br />Funeral services will be Thursday, July 24, at 10 a.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home in North Syracuse. Rev. Jack Keating, of Cicero United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. She was em-ployed at General Super Plating in East Syracuse for 20 years. Sokhom was a long time member of the Cambodian Alliance Baptist Church in Syracuse. She was deeply loved by her friends and family and is now in Heaven with our Lord.<br />    <br />Sokhom is survived by her brother, three children, four grand-children, and one great grandchild.<br /><br />Calling hours will be Monday, July 21, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse.       <description><![CDATA[Elizabeth Schwartz Seifert, 97, died Saturday, at Rosewood Heights. She was born in Oswego on February 20, 1911 to the late William and Winifred Mitchell. During World War II she was a telephone operator at West Point under the Signal Corps. For many years she lived  in Newburgh, NY before moving to Syracuse and then for over 30 years she lived in Mattydale.   <br /><br />Predeceasing her are her husbands, Herman Schwartz in 1959 and William Seifert in 1986; her brothers, Thomas and Edward Mitchell; her sister, Beatrice Tracey and granddaughter, Linda.<br /><br />A beloved Mother and Grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Mary (Joseph) Perdicho of Seneca Falls; a son, William (Evelyn) Schwartz of Liverpool; a sister-in-law, Marion Deveraux; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and close friends, Bob and Diana Ashwood. <br /><br />At our mother's request, services and burial in North Syracuse Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.<br /><br />Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to a favorite charity.]]></description>

He grew up in  Liverpool and was a long time resident of Cicero. <br /><br />Warren  graduated in 1938 from Liverpool High School and served during World War II as an Army  Medic. <br /><br />In 1985, he retired from Syracuse China after 40 years of service. He enjoyed fish and camping in the Adirondack Mountains. Warren's favorite hobby was his stamp collection.<br /><br />Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, the former Antonia Mateo Wilk; his daughters, Marlene (John) Walker of DeRuyter, Anita Jones of Clay and Kathy (Rick) Markee of Cleveland; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  <br /><br />Services will be Monday at 10 am at Fergerson Funeral Home. A life long resident of Syracuse, she attended Assumption Catholic Academy, Grant Junior High School and graduated in 1941 from North High School.   <br /><br />In 1992, Mary retired from St. Joseph's Hospital where she had been in the communications department. She was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption, loved family and friends and had many interests including playing cards. <br /><br />Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Jane Hurst and Kathleen "Tootie" Kicak and by her former husband, John A. Priano, on November 18, 1991.<br /><br />Surviving are her children: Nancy Ostuni, Brent Erwin and her children, Kristi, Amanda, and Dominique; Jacki Heck, her husband, Greg, and their children, Greg and Erika and John Michael Priano, his wife, Donna, their daughter, Jill Fiore and her husband, John. He was predeceased by his parents, Jane and Stanley Johnson, Sr. and by his nephew, Craig Johnson of Palm Desert, CA. <br /><br />Stanley was a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Industrial Design and was a member of the Varsity Crew Team. He joined Schneider Packaging Equipment Co., Inc. in Brewerton in 1972 and held the position of Vice President until his retirement in 2007. He also held the position of Engineering Manager, mentoring and providing opportunities for success for others. He attended Albany Boys Academy; Governor Dummer Academy, Byfield, MA; Williams College, Williamstown, MA; Syracuse University; and Colorado State University. John joined the military after December 7, 1941, serving 12 honorable years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was president of a manufacturers representative firm, John L. Haley, Inc., and retired in 1991. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He previously served on the Skaneatelas Country Club board of directors and was a former member of the Syracuse Century Club. She was a poll watcher for the Onondaga County Board of Elections and was the Pitcher Hill Apartments Game Night initiator. She was a member and a past vice president of the Mattydale Senior Citizens, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at Loretto and attended college art classes. <br /><br />Mrs. Conway was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Lindstrom, on January 29, 1975 and by her husband, John C.       <description><![CDATA[Mrs. Hattie R. Oliver, 88, of Syracuse, affectionately known as "Nana," departed this life on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Crouse Hospital after a brief illness. <br /><br />Hattie was born January 5, 1920, in Wilson County, NC, to the union of the late Chalmers and Hattie Boykins Hinnant. She attended public schools and Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Wilson County, NC. In the 1930s she moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she met and married on March 12, 1965, her late husband, Daniel Oliver of N. Carolina. Hattie was employed for several years as a domestic for several families in Brooklyn. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering with the DAV Auxiliary, dancing, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.<br /><br />She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. <br /><br />She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Daniel, in 1993; by her only child, Edna Minnifield in 1990; by her sisters, Leora Hinnant, Gertrude Brown and Elmira Dawson; and by her brother, Harvey Hinnant.<br /><br />Surviving are two granddaughters, Tanya and Tina Minnifield, both of Syracuse; two great-granddaughters, Camilla Camby and LaShantay Minnifield; a sister, Willie Lavender of N. He will be missed by all who knew him.<br /><br />Surviving are his mother, Diane (David) Abbattista of Charlotte, NC; his father, Loren A.       <description><![CDATA[Irene C. Podolak Orzel, a wife of 61 years to Thaddeus (Ted) Orzel and mother of Rev. David Orzel, died Saturday, the 10th at St. Joseph's Hospital where she had been a surgical patient. <br /><br />Born in Syracuse on July 24, 1927 to Stanley and Anna Podolak, she lived her early life on the "East Side". She married Ted on July 5, 1947 at Transfiguration Church. Thereafter, the couple settled in and made their life in North Syracuse.<br /><br />Irene was a founding  member at the inception of the CCD Program at St. Rose of Lima. She was a volunteer teacher and aide for years in the Catholic School System of Syracuse with the Franciscan Sisters at St. Rose, St. Mary's-Minoa and St. Daniel's-Lyncourt. At St. John the Baptist, in later years, she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Legion of Mary. Her passions and interests were her home; caring for those in need via telephone, in person or by card; her Catholic Faith; and her Polish heritage and background.<br /><br />Besides her husband and son, Irene is survived by one sister, Eleanor Matkowski, a special nephew, Paul Edward Kolakowski and his daughters, Hailee and Madison; nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her are three sisters and three brothers. <br /><br />Irene will be waked on Tuesday, May 13th from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse.       <description><![CDATA[Esther E. Harris Parker, 85, of North Syracuse/Syracuse died Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Esther shared a loving relationship of 66 years with her husband, Paul J., who died on November 15, 2007.  Esther was the daughter of Emma and Monty Harris. She retired from Carrier Corp and enjoyed attending the monthly luncheon meeting with her husband, Paul, who also worked at Carrier.<br /><br />Esther was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy and her brother, Chester. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Richard G. (Rick) Parker, Jr. <br /><br />Surviving are three children, Robert (Diane) Parker of Culpeper, VA, Richard (Carol) Parker of Whitesboro, NY and Beverly St. Angelo of Brewerton; five grand children; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred (William) Ashby and Virginia Schaefer; her brother, Gordon Harris and several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.<br /><br />Esther was a sweet diminutive lady who always took care of others before herself. Esther's final years were enhanced by the loving care of her daughter, Beverly.       <description><![CDATA[Evelyn Rose Conklin Chilton, 88, of North Syracuse died Friday at home. She was a native of Bellville, New Jersey and lived in North Syracuse since 1954. <br /><br />Mrs. Chilton was an Army Nurse Corps veteran of World War II having served with the 106th Station Hospital in Italy and the Pacific Theater. She retired from Smith Road Elementary School in 1983 after 18 years as School Nurse. <br /><br />Mrs. Chilton was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. She was a square dancer with Sullivan Squares of Fayetteville and Pairs and Squares of Liverpool. She is predeceased by her husband, Marvin M. Chilton, on December 2, 1971 and by her brother, Arthur Conklin in the 1970's.<br /><br />Surviving are three children, Connie (Bill) McGinley of North Port, FL, Judy (Wayne) Onofri of Punta Gordo, FL and Donald (Pat) Chilton of Cave Creek, AZ; seven grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Hardaker of Edison, NJ and Geraldine Hayes of Wayne, NJ and several nieces and nephews.<br /><br />Services will be Wednesday at 10 am at Fergerson Funeral Home with burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery. She was a native of Bellville, New Jersey and lived in North Syracuse since 1954. <br /><br />Mrs. Chilton was an Army Nurse Corps veteran of World War II having served with the 106th Station Hospital in Italy and the Pacific Theater. She retired from Smith Road Elementary School in 1983 after 18 years as School Nurse. <br /><br />Mrs. Chilton was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. She was a square dancer with Sullivan Squares of Fayetteville and Pairs and Squares of Liverpool. She is predeceased by her husband, Marvin M. Chilton, on December 2, 1971 and by her brother, Arthur Conklin in the 1970's.<br /><br />Surviving are three children, Connie (Bill) McGinley of North Port, FL, Judy (Wayne) Onofri of Punta Gordo, FL and Donald (Pat) Chilton of Cave Creek, AZ; seven grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Hardaker of Edison, NJ and Geraldine Hayes of Wayne, NJ and several nieces and nephews.<br /><br />Services will be Wednesday at 10 am at Fergerson Funeral Home with burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery.       <description><![CDATA[Stephanie Mary Ann Fabian, 20, of Baldwinsville passed away Wednesday. She was a graduate of C. W. Baker High School, Baldwinsville and was recently named to the Dean's List at OCC where she majored in education. She was a gifted writer who excelled at playing piano and clarinet. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.<br /><br />                She was predeceased by her uncle, Thomas Fabian; her paternal grandfather, Joseph Fabian and by her maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Scicchitano, with whom she had a special relationship and who passed away March 11, 2008.<br /><br />  Surviving are her loving parents, Bernard E. and Mary Frances R. Scicchitano Fabian; her adoring sister, Jennifer T.       <title>ALMA LANIGRA, 84 of SYRACUSE, NY died Apr 30, 2008</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Alma E. Makowski LaNigra, 84, of North Syracuse, died peacefully Wednesday. A Schenectady native, she had lived in Nahant, MA before moving to North Syracuse in 1959. First employed in 1939,  she was a legal secretary.  In 1979, she retired after 14 years of service, from the NYS Department of Labor as Executive Secretary to the Commissioner of Labor.<br /><br />Alma was a member of CSEA since 1965, served as treasurer of Local 013 and was  president from 1996-1998 of the Syracuse Area Retirees of CSEA. <br /><br />A daily communicant of St. Rose of Lima, Alma was also a lector, eucharistic minister, funeral reception team leader. She was member of Rosary Altar Society, CCD Board Secretary and had taught second grade CCD. <br /><br />Alma joined Bishop Curley Council 3717 Columbiettes in 1978, was president from 1986-1988 and most recently was financial secretary. She served as president of North Central Chapter Columbiettes and  served as District Deputy. Many Columbiette projects benefited from Alma's expertise and volunteerism.<br /><br />An avid Bridge player, Alma taught Bridge at BOCES in the 1970's. She had taught Weight Watchers and worked for the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Stores. Friday nights were spent with friends, the G.D.O.P.s, and she and her daughter were season ticket holders to the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. She traveled many places stateside and overseas with her husband and friends. Her husband of 48 years, Joseph, predeceased her on December 16, 1995.<br /><br />Surviving are two children, Anne G. (Kevin) Domanico and Mark F. (Sara Procopio) LaNigra; five grand children, Benjamin, Jessica, Melissa, Amber and Rachel; two great grandchildren, Elijah and Nevaeh; a sister, Frances Brooks and several nieces, nephews, great and great grand nieces and nephews.<br /><br />Services will be Tuesday May 6, at 9:30 am at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Church with burial following in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
