Donald Max Johnson, was born to Marvel and Sy Johnson Feb. 27, 1932 at his aunt's home in Quinlan, located in western Oklahoma. He attended school in Belva, Waynoka, and Quinlin, OK, and for a short time in Wichita, KS where his parents worked in the war effort for Boeing Aircraft. Returning to Oklahoma, he graduated from Quinlan in 1950. Don has two sisters, Shirley Washburn and Joyce Matteson, both from the Quinlan area.

Don grew up near his grandparents, T.A .and Claire Dwyer, three aunts, and three uncles, all similar ages. Living in rattlesnake country and being the adventurous and curious type, they would talk about camping out, cooking meals over a fire, trapping animals to sell their hides and yes, hunting rattlesnakes.

During his school days, he was active in sports, especially basketball, in which his height assisted him. Serving his country in the Air Force for four years, he was stationed in Germany and France. During that time, Don played volleyball and because of their winning record, the team was flown to the U.S. for a tournament. The other team members were much taller and Don's team lost the tournament. While in the service, he received training in airplane engine overhaul and maintenance. Following his tour of duty in the service, he and his Uncle Bud made application to American Airlines in Tulsa and were both hired on April 11, 1955. During his career at American Airlines, he held the positions of mechanic, inspector, and crew chief, mixed in with some orneriness. He retired from American Airlines in April 1995 after 40 years of service to the company.

The summer following his discharge from the Air Force, while visiting his half sister Alice Whitton of Cleveland, OK, he was invited on a double date with his niece and her boy friend. On that date he met his bride to be, Georgia Ann Kerns. Georgia attended Cleveland Christian Church and guess what, so did Don. He became convicted he needed the Lord in his life. On January 13, 1957, he gave his life to the Lord and was baptized. They married on May 19, 1957 on a Sunday afternoon, but that evening Georgia returned to school to attend her baccalaureate service before her graduation from high school. They began their married life in Tulsa, but later moved their mobile home to Cleveland, OK, where their two sons, Bryan and Tracy were born. Returning to Tulsa, they were blessed with their daughter, Stephanie and later purchased 10 acres in Owasso, where their three children attended and graduated from Owasso schools.

Their three children have blessed them with six grandchildren; Nicole Sparks, Blake and Garet Branham, Natalie Hooker, Zackary Johnson (deceased) and his sister Bryanne. They now have two great grandchildren, Zoey and Zander Sparks. Grandma says, "She has three "z's" for grandchildren"; Zackary, Zoey and Zander.

Don also enjoyed travelling to other countries, as he did while in the service. One trip that was memorable for him was the trip with Georgia and the Siemens to Austria where they worked at Haus Edelweiss for two weeks. The TCM mission provides college degrees to students of eastern Europe. After working for two weeks, they rented a car and toured Italy, Switzerland, Germany and France, before returning home.
Don was an active member at Collinsville Christian Church for 30 years, serving as treasurer, deacon, elder, and teacher. Later, they moved their membership to Christview Christian Church in Tulsa until Don was unable to attend any longer, because of his progressing Alzheimer's disease. Georgia relocated them to the First Christian Church of Owasso, near their new home in the city.

In March of 2009, Don moved to a nursing facility while Georgia had shoulder surgery. During that time, he was moved to the hospital because of aspiration pneumonia. To allow healing time, a feeding tube was inserted and he was moved to Sequoyah Pointe, where he resided until his passing, January 22, 2010.

Don leaves behind his wife Georgia of 52 years; son Bryan and wife Ruth, granddaughter Bryanne of Owasso; son Tracy and wife Mary of Broken Arrow; daughter Stephanie Hooker and husband Jubal, granddaughter Natalie, their "china doll" of Owasso; grandsons Blake and wife Kelsey Branham of Oklahoma City, Garet Branham of Tulsa; granddaughter Nicole Sparks and husband Adam, great-grandchildren Zoey and Zander of Oolagah; A host of friends, all to whom he was a companion, father figure, willing servant and an example of a Godly man. Don lived out what he believed and inspired others to follow his example.

Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010 at First Christian Church in Owasso, Oklahoma with Pastor Ben Killion and Pastor John Powers officiating. Serving as Honorary casket were Blake Branham, Garet Branham, Adam Sparks, Jerry Ferguson, Dan Siemens, Terry Siemens, and Daryl Siemens. Committal services and interment followed at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church - Building Fund, 10100 North Garnett Road, Owasso, Oklahoma 74055.
