National Hall of Records (NHOR) takes the privacy of its members and visitors and seriously. This policy applies to all services and products offered by NHOR (included but not limited to online tributes, obituaries, death notices, Guest Books and photo albums). Please read the following to learn more about our privacy policy and the information we collect and how we use it:
Information Collection and Use
NHOR collects personal information from you whenever you visit our site, such as when you register for our services, add content or photographs to a tribute and/or visit web pages on NHOR. When you register for our services, we ask for information such as your name, mailing address, email address and phone number. Some of our services may require billing information such as a bank account number or credit card number. With respect to online tributes and obituaries NHOR collects information such as date of birth and date of death for the deceased person. NHOR may collect personal information about you when you sponsor or submit information for a tribute, obituary, death notice, Guest Book and/or photo album. Once you register with NHOR and sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us any longer. You are free to use our site www.nhor.org without registering or setting up an account; however, some of our services and web pages are available only to those who are registered users. We automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, cookie information, and the pages you request. We use your personal information for the following general purposes: to fulfill your request, customize the content you see, improve our services, contact you and conduct research.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you request, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances: We will respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims. When we believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of the NHOR terms of use, or as otherwise required or permitted by law. This site makes obituaries, tributes, Guest Books, photo albums and other postings available for viewing by all of our visitors. You should always exercise caution when disclosing any personal information which can be viewed by others. NHOR will share your billing information with our credit card processor to provide services which you have elected.
Data integrity
NHOR processes information only for the purposes for which it was collected and in accordance with its policy or any applicable service-specific privacy notice. We take reasonable steps to ensure that the information we process is accurate, but we depend on our members to provide us with the correct information.
Security
The security of your personal information is important to us. When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number) on our registration or order forms, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. NHOR, like many Web sites, uses cookies on www.nhor.org. A cookie is a file containing a string of code that we transfer to your computer's hard drive, to be kept there for later use. NHOR contracts with third party companies to help us make sure that our content and advertising are relevant and effective, and to analyze how visitors use our site. Personal Account Information and Preferences
You can update your NHOR Account Information at any time, by logging in and going to the update my information page. NHOR reserves the right to send you certain important communications relating to the NHOR service, such as service announcements and administrative messages. You may opt out of receiving these messages by emailing support@nhor.org.. You can also change or terminate your NHOR account at any time by sending your request to support@nhor.org.. Access to your personal information is only provided to NHOR employees who we believe need that access in order to do their jobs and to provide products or services you have requested. NHOR recognizes the importance of children's safety and privacy on the Internet. In compliance with certain laws, NHOR does not intentionally collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The sign the Guest Book section and the email a link of our website requires you to enter your name and email address, we require this information to identify visitors who enter a comment which will be publicly viewed. If you enter a comment in the Guest Book section you will receive a one-time email. If you choose to use our referral service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for your friend's name and email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit the site. NHOR stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and tracking the success of our referral program. Your friend may contact us at support@nhor.org. to request that we remove this information from our database.

We reserve the right to modify this privacy statement at any time, so please review it frequently. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here, by email, or by means of a notice on our home page. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the home page, and other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
